wEaster Sunday March 24th 2008x

I had an offer for a pianist of a protestant church.
This is the first experience for me so the former pianist Christine decided to accompany with me on the Easter Sunday. I was very nervous.

When the choir was marching in to the church, I supposed to play gWithout Seeing Youh but I was too nervous to understand the sign of the minister. I could finally understand when Christine said to me from my back gStart! Go!h

During the congregation, we sang about 10 pieces of Hymn include a little longer choir song and everything went well.
As we arrived at the last hymn, I somehow misunderstood the order although the leader explained it to me beforehand.
I repeated the first part, but I noticed that everybody sang different melodies from the piano accompaniment. The members of choir looked at me worrying and Christine jumped right in to instruct the music.
Finally I could finish the last hymn and everybody had big smile.

For the postlude, I played gAeolian Harph by William Gillock, and everybody gave a big applause to a new timid pianist. After the congregation sevral people came to me and encouraged gI did the same thing when I played at a churchh hDonft worry, you did a good job!h gThank you for making us laughing!h gIt was good as the first time!h And my tension was eased when I heard following words gIt was very good, you did a good job. Because you broke the ice!h Now I believe that I can be some use of others even though I make mistakes.
The piano at this church is a Young Chang grand piano.
I feel very good to play this as I can control the sound and keys follow my fingers and plus the good acoustic sound.
I said to my friend gI feel very good playing at this church, I can play as I want. Maybe God stays with me during I play.h Then she said to me gYes, and of course Gillock stays with you. Thatfs why!h
